What We Do
We take on a wide range of residential remodeling/repair work, from small jobs to large. Additions, garages and structural interior remodels are our bread-and-butter. For these larger projects, we act as both general contractor and on-site labor for building and finishing.
The scopes of work our team personally performs are:
- Pulling permits
- Demolition and haul-away
- Framing
- Insulating
- Drywall hanging and finishing
- Door, window and skylight supply and installation
- Interior trim
- Stairs and railings
- Cabinet installation
- Shelving fabrication and installation
- Painting of all building components
- Some types of flooring
On the exterior, repairs and installation of:
- Decks and railings
- Screened-in decks/porches or sunrooms
- Siding
- Exterior trim
- Asphalt and rubber roofing
- Light masonry
- Painting and caulking
This is not an exhaustive list, and we are always eager to quote a project that entails something unusual!
For a project that involves heavy masonry, excavation, custom cabinetry, plumbing, electric, HVAC, tile, hardwood floors and other specialty trades, we solicit quotes from our favorite partner contractors – who have worked alongside us on many projects – while also remaining flexible to work with a specialty contractor you have already had a good experience with.
What To Expect
When you contact us for a free consultation and quote, we typically respond within two days, but often sooner. (Note: as our customer service is a one-man operation, vacation can sporadically vary our response time.)
We reach out to you using any contact info you’ve given us. Once we connect, we schedule a time to meet you at your project location, generally within a week depending on your availability. If you’re interested in a ballpark estimate, share your project scope, general measurements and pictures – we can clarify anything needed to give an initial range of estimate prior to setting a meeting.
During our meeting, we will learn about your plans, take measurements, and bring up any crucial points that might impact the finished project. Our goal by the end of this step is to set broad expectations for the project cost, scope and schedule.
Next, we compile an inclusive, clear and detailed quote for you, along with any options as discussed on site. For larger projects: this draft of the quote includes allowances for permit fees, engineering, specialty trades and specialty materials as applicable, and a progress payment schedule is drafted. Quoting usually takes between one to two weeks, depending on project size and complexity. We will give an estimated ETA on the quote on site.
We send this quote to you by email when completed, to minimize delays. We invite questions, changes or further clarifications at this point. Our goal during this part is to nail down scope, costs and expectations. When we hear that you wish to proceed with our quote, we arrange to replace any allowances with actual contractor and material quotes. While this is arranged, we work out with you an exact schedule for the project to follow.
Then we arrive at a completed contract – ready for you to sign, make a deposit if applicable, and secure your spot in our schedule!
During the Project
We keep in touch with you in the days leading up to your project start date, ensuring you are ready for and familiar with the plan.
On day one, we take care to properly protect any finished surfaces, and set up dust barriers if applicable, before doing any work. Maintenance of these protections is a priority for us during the entire project.
As much as an expert eye can foresee possible or likely hiccups in a remodel project, these hiccups inevitably occur somehere. As soon as we encounter or uncover anything that may add to the scope of work, we alert you and hold off proceedings until a change is properly agreed to and documented. You are never charged for any work or any dollar amount you did not explicitly agree to.
When the project is finished, we remove our footprint and clean behind ourselves, taking debris with us. If you have any questions, concerns or curiosity at any point during the project, we heartily invite you to express them. It’s a priority to us to treat your input with care and respect, ensuring you feel both adequately heard and informed about everything from beginning to end.
